Hey booklovers! Earlier this week I posted on my Instagram account saying that I was accepting questions and that I would answer them here on my blog. So, here goes!
How does it feel to have (literally) a library of books?
It feels soooo good! I find it really comforting to have a nice healthy TBR pile, which at the moment has been added into my rainbow shelves. It also looks super impressive so I’ve had plenty of friends come around to my house just to see my bookshelf!
What’s your favourite book right now?
I read A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas last year, and even though I’ve read a lot of good books since then, nothing has been able to knock it off my top spot. She definitely has me hooked on her writing style and I am super keen to reread ACOTAR in preparation for A Court of Mist and Fury.
How long have you been collecting books?
I have had a small collection since I was a kid, but my book collection really expanded last year when I was introduced into the Bookstagram community – It totally sparked my reading passion again!
What are some book recommendations you have?
A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas
The Winner’s Curse by Marie Rutkoski
The Selection by Keira Cass
The Jewel by Amy Ewing
What filters/editing apps do you use?
I use VSCO cam, and I generally mix my filters but mostly I use S2 and 05!
Do you enjoy living in Perth?
Yeah, for sure! I have a beautiful house with my amazing fiance and our three kitties. I have a perfect job and I have the best group of friends. What’s not to love?
Have any advice for those who have recently started their own bookstagrams?
Have fun with it! Take inspiration from others, but try to develop your own style.
Do you have multiple editions of one or more books?
My fiance is a bit of a reader as well, so when we moved in together we combined our collections and we ended up with a few multiples! Game of Thrones, Inheritance Series and Harry Potter.
What is your favorite part of your book collection? (Like series, or favorite editions of classics, etc.)
Definitely my collection of fantasy series!
At what age did you start to read your first big book?
I’ve read for as long as I can remember, but I think my first BIG book was Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. I was 7 when it was published and I remember how overwhelmed the book made me feel, but luckily I had my mum to help me through it.
What was the first book you read?
Ooooh, that’s a hard one! I read a lot of children’s books growing up, but the first book I remember reading was The Very Hungry Caterpillar.
How many books do you have?
It’s been a while since I’ve counted my books, and I honestly don’t have the time right now to count everything but my fiance and I have estimated around 450+
What is the prettiest book you own?
I own so many pretty books! I would have to say The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss. I think it’s a really elegantly designed book cover.
What’s your favourite way of organising your books?
I love a good rainbow! If I can be bothered i’ll organise my shelves by colour, but after a while it tends to get on my nerves because I can’t find my books easily. So my second favourite way to organise my books is in genres and all series grouped together.
Why did you start bookstagram?
My friend Taneika (Flippingthroughthepages) had started a bookstagram account and she showed me. I followed her account and a whole bunch of other book accounts and it made me want to start my own, and well here we are!
What got you into reading?
My mum! She’s always been a bit of a bookworm, and she is a teacher as well. When I was a kid she would always encourage my reading. I got into a big reading slump after I left highschool and it wasn’t until last year that my reading habits really picked up again.
What do you do for a living/studying/majoring in?
I manage a store that sells collectibles/figures and I’m studying a certificate IV in retail management.
Where did you buy your bookshelves?
Ikea! They’re the Billy bookshelves.
What’s your OTP?
Rowaelin, sorry not sorry.
Do you take your pictures with your phone or with a camera?
I take all my photos with my iPhone 6. I do own a DSLR camera which I really should start using for my photos, but generally for convenience sake I use my iPhone.
How did you get so many followers?
I just concentrated on my content, and engaged with the community! I’ve hosted a couple of shoutout sessions with my followers which helps me expand my audience, but apart from that I’ve just posted photos.
I only have an iPhone 4/Poor quality camera, what tips do you have to make my bookstagram feed better?
Lighting is your best friend! Find good natural light spots (I love photographing things near my window) or find a suitable light source to light up your picture.
What would be the first book that you would place on your shelf whenever you rearrange it?
My Harry Potter books are the books I treasure the most, so I always tend to arrange them on the shelves first.
How do you manage to keep your account so colourful and so full of life?
I just make and post pictures that I would want to see! It helps that I have a lot of amazingly colourful books in my collection to photograph.
If you could swap lives with a fictional character, who would it be and why?
Celaena Sardothien, because she’s a total badass!
Favourite Indie (not that popular) books would you recommend to everyone?
One of my favourite series that I’ve been into lately has been the Storm Siren Trilogy by Mary Weber, and I feel like it’s totally underrated in the book community! I’m planning on hosting a readalong for this series starting February 1st, so if you’re looking for something good to read you should totally join me.
Weird question: when I move, I am thinking on taking pictures of every single book I own. Do you ever do that? I’m thinking on doing that because whenever I go to the book store, I never remember which book in a series I haven’t gotten and I never fail to get a second or THIRD copy (true story) of a book haha
Not weird! I actually do this myself. I take photos of my bookshelves and have it handy on my phone so when I go book shopping I can quickly look at my photos to see if I already have it/need it for my collection. I find visual aids to be SOOOOO much easier to work with rather than a written list – but hey, whatever works for you.
Have you ever wanted to write your own book since you love books so much? If so, which genre and what would the book be about?
Yes! It is my dream to write my own book and share it with the world. I have dabbled in creative writing since I was in primary school, and I really enjoy it. I haven’t had any training or taken any courses – which is in my list of things to do in the near future. Once I feel more confident in my writing abilities I will probably work on writing a novel. (Anita, your little story is coming, I promise!)
How many Funko Pop! Vinyls do you have?
More than I would like to admit to. Over 100+ that’s for sure!
Who is your favourite Harry Potter character?
Do you have any good new upcoming book opinions?
There’s so many good upcoming books that now that i’m trying to think of them I can’t think of any! I’ll make a post about my most anticipated book releases soon.
What’s your opinion on book to movie/TV adaptions?
If they’re done right, they’re amazing – i.e. Hunger Games. However, if it’s picked up by the wrong people it can go to $%^# very quickly *cough* Shadow Hunters *cough*
Do you prefer YA or Fantasy?
I prefer YA fantasy, to be honest!
Tips for reading slumps?
Don’t force yourself to read! Try watching book videos on youtube or checking up what your favourite bloggers are reading and see if that inspires you to read again.
Do you prefer series or standalone?
I find that I reach for series much more than standalone, mainly because I feel like standalone fantasy books are hard to come by.
Do you buy books yourself or do publishers send them to you?
100% of the books that I own at this present moment have been bought with my own money. Majority of the books I have in my collection are from second hand book stores so I payed a fraction of the price for them.
Which do you prefer, U.S or U.K cover editions?
Depends on the covers of the books! I much prefer the UK/Australia versions of the Throne of Glass series whereas I prefer the US edition of Truthwitch.
Thanks so much for sending me your questions! If you have any questions that you would like answered, or anything you want me to talk about – leave it as a comment on this post and i’ll do my best to get to it as soon as I can! ❤
